If you have an Angora rabbit, grooming is a must! Unless you are showing your long haired rabbit, it is easiest to keep the coat trimmed to a length of about 1 inch or else the coat will be very prone to matting and your rabbit prone to hairballs ("wool block"). Never attempt to trim your rabbit’s hair on your own.  Their skin is quite thin and can easily be cut. It is best left to a professional groomer. Brushing should become part of the daily routine from a young age (it is a good chance to bond with your bunny, too).

Nail Trims : Regular nail trims should also be part of the grooming routine. Check the nails every few weeks.

Rabbits

Ferrets tend to have a musky smell, but should not be bathed more than once a month as it could remove the good oils in the skin. We use a very mild and non-irritating shampoo. Ferrets nails are extremely sharp and should be trimmed every few weeks. Nails that are not regularly trimmed may become painfully long and the ferret could injure himself by getting caught in carpets, towels, or toys.

Regular brushing will help keep your guinea pig’s coat in good condition and most guinea pigs do not mind being brushed. The time you spend brushing and combing your guinea pig is also a good opportunity to check for problems such as lice or sores on the skin. The need for brushing depends on how long your guinea pig's hair is and whether or not your guinea pig is shedding:

  • Long-haired guinea pigs - The long hair is usually matted caused by the wood chips in their cage. Contact us to schedule an appointment for their hair cut.
  • Short-haired guinea pigs - Brush every few days (at least once a week). If your guinea pig is shedding (losing more hair than usual), brush at least every other day. While guinea pigs don't enjoy getting their nails clipped, they do need to have them cared for on a regular basis. Plan to clip your guinea pig's nails once a month to keep your small pet healthy and happy.

It is important to properly groom your bird to maintain his physical and psychological health. The frequency of grooming depends on your specific bird. Grooming includes wing clipping, nail clipping and bathing. Consult a veterinarian if your bird's beak needs to be trimmed.
